Reina and Lorenzo had been trying to get pregnant for years but all attempts had failed, finally they had given up the hope of ever having a child of their own. Proud as they were of their heritage they refused to adopt so they finally accepted their faith. More than a year later Reina found herself pregnant after all and even though they were a fair bit older then when they decided to have children they were still happy, especially when they found out they were having twins.
Esmeralda was born less then ten minutes after her brother Diablo and even though most families show sibling rivalry they have always been very close. This because to their parents they were not equal, a girl wasn’t capable of carrying on the family name and even though her parents had been very happy to find out Reina was pregnant they always cared for Diablo more then for Esmeralda. With most families this would have driven the sibling apart but their bond as twins was so strong that they stuck together at all times and Diablo was always there for Esmeralda, no matter if it was to protect her or to give her a shoulder to cry on. Yet neither of them dared to stand up to their parents as their views were solid, their rules strict and their punishments painful.
At age eleven both of them attended Isla de Mona Magia Instituto in Puerto Rico. It became more and more obvious how close the siblings were as they both excelled in the same subjects and they could be found together most of the time. Neither one of them really had any friends nor did they believe that they needed them after all, they had each other.
The year of their graduation their mother died in a potions accident that was caused because their father had treated the ingredients wrongly. A couple of weeks later he killed himself because he couldn’t live with the knowledge that he was to blame for the death of his wife. This left Diablo and Esmeralda on their own at barely seventeen, though they had officially come off age and didn’t get any government support any more. They both moved back into their parents house together after graduation and found respectable jobs though three years later misfortune truck again. Diablo got killed in the crossfire between El Chupacabra and his followers and a group of mages that was hunting them, he was collateral damage. El Chupacabra a dreaded dark mage, that hides his tracks by blaming his kills on Vampires. There are few that know that the killings couldn’t possible have been committed by a vampire but the only ones that know that are local vampires and a handful of hunters and those who know think twice before sharing that knowledge.
For the first time in her life Esmeralda was truly on her own, she was filled with sorrow and pain. Somewhere around this time Sombra was born although her voice was still distant. Esmeralda made it her mission to find out who killed Diablo and swore to revenge her brothers death. It took her many months but eventually she traced her brothers killer down who turned out to be one of the mages that hunting down El Chupacabra. When the mage told her that her brothers death had been ‘acceptable collateral damage’ her fury took control of her as did Sombra. That was her first murder, she was twenty-one. After this she soon joined El Chupacabra and became one of his most loyal followers.
Many years later Sombra still reigns. According to the Lord she had many capabilities that she had left untouched for too long and during her five years of service he personally trained her and molded her into shape leaving her with her current skills and more cold, calculated and careless then she already was naturally.

Esmeralda didn’t have the strength to deal with her brothers death and as a result Sombra took over control, she so far hasn’t shown to be able to love or even care for other people. To Sombra Esmeralda is a vague person from the past that doesn’t have anything to do with her but part of Esmeralda still exists deep within Sombra, this mainly shows in her still unyielding love and loyalty to her decreased brother. Sombra and Esmeralda each have a mind of their own but exist within the same body, Sombra had been in control of that body for the last years because her willpower is stronger then Esmeralda’s. Because of this they also have the exact same magical skills, the only difference is that Esmeralda’s magic is regular while Sombra’s magic is Nephandic, how the performed magic turns out will depend on the amount of control each one of them has at that moment.
